Official Hardware slow CPU's

I'm running a Qotom appliance with i7 7500U CPU on my multi WAN pfSense. Considered to upgrade to a Netgate 7100U. But why do they only have a slow Atom CPU? Next bigger model with Xeon CPU consumpts more power and is way too expansive for the usecase. Any chance to get better CPU's at mid range models soon?

What throughput do you need? What packages are you running? Are you sure the C3558 is not sufficient?

@stephenw10 I'm running Suricata and OpenVPN / IPsec. My 7500U is getting around 40% load max at 1 GBit/s VPN. Planning to upgrade to 10 GBit/s so I'm looking forward for a more powerful CPU. The Atom will be a huge downgrade. Intel 10th or 11th mobile CPU would be interessting of course.

Ok, that's fair. You won't see 1Gbps OpenVPN through the 7100. Not yet at least.
