Hello, last time i was installing Pfsense v2.4.4 via bootable device, i installed it on hard drive using my desktop: went through install, and once the install wizard asked to reboot, i let it shutdown the desktop and turned it off manually, without letting it boot. Then grabbed the HDD and installed it to Firewall appliance. It booted and i connected my PC via ethernet cable to second available port on the appliance, and got IP assigned from default 192.168.1.0/24 range. After that i was able to continue configuration via GUI.

So i tried to do the same recently with 2.6.0 version, but didn't get the same output, was not getting any IP assigned.

Wondering if on 2.6.0 image, WAN/LAN is no longer automatically assigned to first 2 available interfaces, or did i download incorrect image?

If NIC's are another brand/type on the appliance, you will have to re assign again.
Your 'desktop' should use the same NIC hardware as the appliance.

You do not have a console access on the appliance ??

Edit : and where are the logs ??

If it never booted after the install until it's in the appliance it will auto assign WAN and LAN if it sees NICs it has a predefined config for. Typically that's em or igb.
They might not be in the same order, potentially, of some of the NICs maybe weren't supported in 2.4.4 but are in 2.6.

I assume you don't have a console on your appliance otherwise you could just connect to that and assign the NICs?

            Thanks for the answers!
Yeah, didn't have a console cable, but i was able to find my old bootable CD with 2.4.4 and do the trick with HDD swap from PC to appliance, the auto assignment worked. Then just updated to latest version via GUI. Lesson learned - console cable is ordered :)

Interesting. What NICs does that appliance have? I would have expected anything that worked in 2.4.4 to also work in 2.6.
