pfSense 2.6 Avahi drops after 30 minutes give or take.

      I have multiple(16) Vlan's in 2 LAGGS.

I have Avahi setup with devices on 1 Vlan and 2 other Vlans were given access to the AirPlay/Bonjour streaming devices (AppleTV, Music Bridges and receivers)

With the firewall rules in place it is working great, I can connect and play music from the 2 Vlans that Avahi has given permission to use.

The problem is that music stops and all devices disappear after 30 minutes or so. most of the time they come back but the music streaming on those devices stop.

I saw articles about using virtual IP's was causing issues but I do not use virtual IPs.

Any ideas on how to resolve this.

If anyone has an idea, do not hesitate to ask any other question, I'd love to get this working and can answer any questions you may have.

Thank you in advance for anyone who can help me resolve this :)

      Stay safe everyone

      Frank

        Trouble shooting steps....

I remove the network using Avahi and gave them each their own NIC so no more LAGG or Trunk port for vlans involved in this exchange (vlan with devices or vlans with devices connecting to those hosts)

Still the same issue, drops and music starts until I restart Avahi service then all devices re-appear

        Any ideas anyone???

        Thank you in advance

So it's the devices that are dropped not Avahi restarting?

          Anything logged when this happens?

          Steve

            Hello

Exactly, its the devise loose all their Air Play/Bonjour devices and music stops. I have to close iTunes or Tune Blade(I use to send audio to my music bridges and also loos access to my 2 Yamaha receivers.

Restarting Avahi brings them back. Sometime for 1 hour or even 1 1/2 hours but they always disappear. sometimes after only 15 to 30 minutes.

I tried with Networks in VLAN in an LAGG (LACP) I tried it with each network having their own NIC, but result is always the same.

Sometime iTunes will keep play but loos all other (appleTV/Receivers/Roku) but keep on playing for a bit longer but eventually die.

I have bonjour open on all involved Vlans. I have Gateway open to Bonjour and I have all devices open to all hosts and still they don't stay up.

Works great for a little bit but always die.

I tried almost everything so I am all ears if you have a selection.

Nothing in the logs explaining what is going on

            Thank you for your time

Is there anything logged when this happens though?

Do you see blocked traffic in the firewall logs for example?

              Steve

                Hello

No, that is what is frustrating....

All I get is green check boxes when I do filters of firewall logs for every device/IP/Bonjour.

I try every IP on any Vlan and I get all green.

                That is what is frustrating.

Is plays perfect on any device then for no reason all device disappear, well sometimes they all disappear sometimes some go before others but they eventually all disappear. (matter of seconds or even minutes).

Hmm, probably going to need to pcap there to see what's happening.

You might be able to start Avahi in debug mode and get more info.

Would you have instructions on who to do this?

Mmm, that looks like it restarting when the ruleset is reloaded. I don't see anything unexpected there.

I looked for a way to start it in debug mode, which I thought existed, but found nothing easy.

                            @frankyd3325

                            Hello

It now lasts alot longer than 30 minutes (or it has in last few days, but still drops for no reason, or as you pointed out, when I make changes to rules/alias ect....

Why does Avahi daemon leave the group on all vlans ???

I wasn't adding rules/editing rules or anything, it just fired off?

                            Is this normal behavior?

                            Any ideas tips/solutions

I'll take any help I can get
