Slow Network Problems - pfSense is Firewall + DHCP Server.
-
Hello there!
I have a running pfSense on a Office of a client, but he is been complaining about network problems.
What are the steps, documentations or tools even to help debug what is causing the network stuttering?

@raulchiarella This just requires some general network troubleshooting really, work your way up the OSI layers and rule out any cabling/port issues on the switches/routers first off, then have a look at the WAN circuits for any latency or packet loss being shown on PfSense. (assuming what they're accessing is outside of the LAN)
Some traceroutes, pings, speedtests, the general stuff you can try to pin point the route cause. There's not much for us to go on here, it just needs a deep dive locally by yourself to rule out each bit. It's not really for pfsense to give you the answers as such, the same troubleshooting principles still apply if you're using ASA's, Fortigates, Pfsense etc.

@raulchiarella Is it a Hyper-V VM? There are some issues with the latest release.
https://forum.netgate.com/topic/169884/after-upgrade-inter-v-lan-communication-is-very-slow-on-hyper-v/Otherwise you need to clarify the problem as @crucialguy described. As stated it's not even clear you're talking about an Internet problem.

Yup, first define the problem.
Try to get the client to describe exactly what's happening. And then demonstrate to yourself that is actually what's happening because people will always interpret what they see as the problem in interesting ways!Steve

@stephenw10 Second that, I work as a network engineer and my bug bear 'incidents' are titled ''Network is slow'' - I can promise you 80% of the time the network isn't in fact slow or the cause of the issues, it's often the application. Our team waste so much time on those sort of tickets!
We're trying to get a full Cisco CDO and ACI setup in play so we have more telemetry to use and evidence to throw back at the users.
Users are great.
