Hello, I've always wondered what the point of having VPN on the router itself is. I mean I get the point of things like ipsec on it, but why vpn? Is it just more practical to putting vpn on the router rather than a computer inside the network? Like using hamachi or openvpn. I'm just curious that's all, because in the future I may take use of its openvpn features. Thanks in advance.

IPsec is a VPN.  The "point" you see for having pfSense an IPsec endpoint applies equally to OpenVPN, PPTP and other VPN technologies.
