Currently I have a 3100 that is running 2.4.4 and it clams this is the latest release. However, when I go into system update it offers Latest stable (21.0.2.x) or previous stable version 2.4.5 depreciated. Should this device not be able to run the latest plus version 22.01? Maybe the hardware is past its viable use? I would appreciate input on this. Remember this is a production device and not something someone is using for a home or home business.

@kbiker2011 It will run 22.01. Sometimes older devices offer intermediate versions. I've upgraded several from 2.4.x to either 2.4.5 or 21.02, then on to current, but after running into trouble on one recently, I think I would upgrade to 2.4.5 first and then try to go in order, leaving "previous stable version" set until I was on 21.05.

You can also open a free ticket at go.netgate.com and they'll give you firmware to install 22.01, and restore your saved config.

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

Yeah, it certainly can be updated.

Try running at the command line: pkg-static -d update
That should show you errors indicating why it can't check for upgrades.
