Are you using fiber ?I in "old days" Fiber SFP's were "locked" to the bitrate they (optics) were "Born with"

Yes it's fiber. Does this make it impossible? -
If you are using a multispeed transceiver, then 1 or 10 gbps is possible. There are 1 gbps SFP transceivers (SFP + is backward compatible), there are 10 gbps SFP + transceivers and 1 or 10 gbps multispeed SFP + transceivers. It depends on what you use.

The available link speeds depends on the SFP(+) module you're using.
For example DAC cables usually don't allow setting a link speed at all.
Using a 1G module is probably the best way to ensure it.

I thought so as well, so I tried with a unifi transceiver that I use in a switch set to 1gbps. But there were still not any option to choose a different link speed in pfsense. I even rebooted the router with the new transceiver installed, and there is no option to change anything.

Alright. I swapped around some transceivers temporary in my switches to try it out. I can not test it fully, due to my layout with switches in different rooms. But it seemed like it connected to the switch with a 1G transceiver on auto negotiation. I have ordered more transceivers now. Thanks a lot.

Just to confirm, if anyone else reads this thread and have the same problem.Installing a 1G transceiver in the SFP+ port on auto negotiation, did solve my problem, and I'm using it as a WAN interface now on 1G speed.
