      It explains the fact that when I power the Alcatel on (this causes the 2100 to go off), the inrush for this could bring the supply to the 2100 down for a split second and because the supply is border line already, the 2100 shuts off.

      Yup, almost certainly that. In fact I'm surprised that works at all with 12W max to share between both. It must be right on the edge it's capability, hence any sort of surge could cause it to shutdown.

        I am confirming that I got a dedicated 60W UPS for the 2100 and the problem no longer happens.

        TIL how important the power specs are :-)
