      Hello,
I have been holding off updating to 2.6.0 thinking that initial bugs would be fixed in a 2.6.1 release, but so far such release has not materialized. Is such release expected in the near term, or are the System Patches the "new way" to address such bugs. I am asking because it seems that the strategy has shifted somewhat over the years.

Thank you in advance for advice.

Point releases are generally for security issues or something with a very high impact that cannot be corrected via System Patches.
The only thing that might fall into the category I'm aware of currently is this: https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/12954

But the work to correct that is extensive, more than a point release, so it will likely appear in 2.7.

        Steve

Thank you for the response, Steve. I see several reports of folks having issues with limiters even if not using captive portal. Since I am using limiters and this is not a security issue, I guess I will need to wait for v2.7.0.

As far as I know there is no issue with Limiters in 2.6 if captive portal is not enabled (ipfw is not loaded). I've looked into several reports and they were all solvable via other means or actually did have ipfw running still.
The work to correct this has not been completed yet so we couldn't make a point release for it. It's arguably too extensive a change for a point release anyway. We currently hope to have to have it complete and tested for Plus 22.05.

You mean, if I would have that SG4100 that I tend to buy anyway, I could have limiters back also ?
It wouldn't be a show stopper for me if 22.05 still doesn't have the limiters working, , but this an excellent extra reason to switch definitely from bare bone clone to real dedicated hardware.

The captive portal is a "that's why I use pfSense in the first place" reason (since the very first release).

No "help me" PM's please. Use the forum, the community will thank you.
Edit : and where are the logs ??

You can still use use Limiters that are generated by the captive portal itself in 22.01/2.6. The work there as it redirects to them at layer2. They are currently failing when pf redirects to them at layer3 and ipfw is also running.
The work to remove this issue is significant and will require a lot of testing. Hence we hope to have it ready for 22.05.

Steve, thank you for the additional details. Based on these, I jumped into the deep end and did the update. All seems to be working well for my configuration so far! (Knock on wood, keep fingers crossed.) Only small hickup was the pfBlockerNG-devel package, for which I needed to follow manual update instructions I found in a forum post. Nice job on this release! A big thank you to the pfSense team for the opportunity to use this mature software free of charge as a home user.

                    Hi there,

                    I reported two issues:

                    • https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/14049

Which were closed as duplicates because already fixed, which is nice, however, there hasn't been any recent bugfix release to address these and probably many other bugs which have been recently solved.

Is a 2.6.1 bug fix release on the table?
I think such a release would help in having a more robust 2.6.x PfSense release.

                    Best regards
                    Federico

What about the VLAN issue of routing multiple VLAN's??

                          Which issue specifically is that?
