      I currently have my modem connected to a Netgate 1100 with pfSense® Plus Software with basic wizard setup nothing crazy or special and my computer connected directly to that.

      When doing a speed test i get around 80-100 down. However if I use the isp router I get around 240 down I am not sure why this is.

      New to all of this so any info you need I will provide just not even sure what to look for at this moment.

        @marzdor Are you running the speed test on a PC? Don't run it on the router, that uses CPU cycles.

        Is the 1100 WAN plugged into the same ISP router? If you have a basic switch put that in between the two. That comes up here from time to time and helps some people.

        Is there a switch between your PC and the 1100?

        Have you changed out patch cables?

          I ran the speed test on my PC not the router.

          The 1100 WAN is plugged into the modem and the ISP router is not connected at all.
          There are no switches just modem to 1100 WAN then a ethernet cable from the 1100 LAN to my PC.

          I am using all the same cables that I was using with the ISP router not sure what you mean by patch cables?

            @marzdor patch cable = Ethernet cable. Just to swap to rule them out. I've seen others post "but it worked!" yet a replacement fixes the issue.

            You might try a 5 port switch between the ISP modem and your pfSense just to rule that out. I've seen posts that fixes speed/connection issues, though it of course shouldn't be necessary.

              This could very well be the connection on pfsense wan is only 100, and not gig.. Does the web gui on pfsense show its connected at gig?

              gig.jpg

              100 to be honest would be impossible if actually connected at only 100, max would be like say 95ish.. But that could well within the accuracy of measurement of the speed test, etc.

              If your seeing something lower than 100, that really screams its only connected at 100 if you should be in the 200s

              The sg1100 is quite capable of doing 200s - see this older thread about benchmarking it

              https://forum.netgate.com/topic/140100/sg-1100-throughput-test

              Multiple results there in the 800s for example with iperf testing.. Which is very optimistic/best case scenario for sure.. But 200-300s shouldn't be a problem.

                @johnpoz I see this on mine 71f82027-9fb3-4d79-9d59-9d2c98440052-image.png

                I think that means I am on 100 right? If that is the case how do I adjust that?

                Oh I think I see it under Interface -> switch -ports

                should it be the 1000 full-duplex/master?

                  @marzdor auto should detect that. You can try 1000/full but may get errors. There’s a reason it was not detected as gigabit. Try a switch if you have one handy.

                    @steveits Okay so I tried these 2 configs with a TP-Link TL-SG105

                    modem => switch => 1100 WAN , 1100 LAN => PC
                    modem => 1100 WAN => 1100 LAN => switch, switch => PC

                    did reboots but still seeing the same 100

                      @marzdor Try using a different network cable for your WAN connection.

                          @marzdor That’s a gig switch from what I see online. The modem is irrelevant as the 1100 would see the switch at 1000 with the modem disconnected. It just wouldn’t get an IP. So the modem doesn’t seem to be the issue.

                          Cable is category 5E or higher?

                            @steveits Ah I didn't know it worked like that. 2 of the cables are cat5e and the 3rd I am not sure. The one I currently have plugged in is a cat5e

                              All gigabit needs is plain CAT5, as it predates 5e. If you're only getting 100 Mb, either you have only 2 pairs working or a port is only capable of 100 Mb.

                                @jknott I think maybe my WAN port is the issue I unplugged the cable from the WAN and put it in the OPT port and it showed up as 1000

                                  @marzdor That would be an unexpected answer. The 1100 is a switch with VLANs to separate the ports. You could open a ticket with Netgate though.

                                  You said you rebooted…did you Halt and unplug power for 15-30 seconds?

                                    2wan.jpg

                                    Maybe I am just tired, but that sure doesn't seem right... And its only coming up half duplex as well.. Which is just going to be shit connection even if you were fine with just 100.

                                    Maybe its something related to how you have your switch configured?? I don't have access to 2100 or 3100 at the exact moment. Would have to vpn into work, and my work laptop is off. Or tmrw I can fire up the 3100 I have here.. I need to update it and set it up for use anyway ;)

                                    edit: OK I forgot I had one of the remote sites I could get to remotely.. Without having to vpn into work.

                                    3100.jpg

                                    Did you configure your switch so one of the interfaces would be part of your wan???

                                      I have only done the initial setup wizard out side of that I have not changed anything

                                      In the wizard I left everything standard just changed
                                      Hostname, switched the default 198.162.1.1 and added dns servers

                                      Not sure why it shows 2 WAN it always has

                                          @steveits yeah shows 2 lans as well.. Something is off to me.. I don't have a 1100 to play with but have setup many a 3100.. Which has switch ports, etc..

                                          Maybe its because all the ports are actually switched in sg1100 and none are discrete interfaces??

                                          What I can say for sure that coming up 100 half duplex is not going to allow you to ever see your isp speed in the 200s..

                                          @marzdor it couldn't hurt to do a reset.. Do you have a gig switch to use? Or even a PC to that has a gig interface and validate that the interfaces come up gig on the sg1100

                                          You can plug the port of the sg1100 into a gig switch, or a just plug in to the port on pc or laptop that has a gig interface as well. Just to test if they come up gig..

                                          What is the make and model number of this modem your plugging into?

                                            @johnpoz The TP Link above is supposed to be a gig switch. Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, which is why I went to removing power or reset to default configuration. Or open a ticket especially if it’s new.
