Spectrum business class cable modem was recently zapped during a big thunderstorm. Technician came and replaced the modem with identical new equipment. Since this, my pfSense box will only negotiate a 100baseTX full-duplex connection on the WAN interface.

For troubleshooting I have connected my laptop directly up to the modem. The laptop negotiates a 1000baseTX full-duplex interface immediately without issue. Any idea?

Most likely a bad cable. Could also be a bad port on the pfSense box since presumably that was connected during the storm.

@stephenw10 Tried a new cable already. That second thought crossed my mind as well. What is a good way to test? Run a DHCP server on my laptop and connect it to pfSense box WAN port? See what it negotiates?

Do the LEDs light up and show Gb?

You don't really need a dhcp server running on the laptop. While sure pfsense gui would be slower when no actual wan connection. Connecting it to anything that could do gig should show it coming up gig.. Be that another switch or sure a laptop with a gig interface.

              edit:
Do you happen to have a spare interface you could use on the pfsense box? You could verify that interface comes up gig, and if it does use that as your wan.

Can you just swap the LAN/WAN ports in the Interface assignments (and the cables) and see if the problem follows the swap?
