SG-2100 Console Access
-
I have an SG-2100 for a client. Configured it. Sat for a month as the project was put on hold. Now I'm ready to go install and, of course, can't find the paper with the admin passoword.
No crisis- connect to console to reset the password.
First - WHY did they change the console cable to a mini-USB? But OK, I'll carry two cables from now on.
Bigger problem was when I plugged in the cable it downloads/installs the driver for Windows 10, which seems to fail. When I go into device manager the "Silicon Labs CP210x USB-to-UART Bridge driver" is listed under "Other Devices" instead of serial and COM ports. And no COM port is listed anywhere.
Anyone else see this? How do you fix it?

Never mind... I found the answer on the Silicon Labs web forum (who knew they had one?)
Linked here for anyone else that runs into this problem...

@marlom It's also in our documentation.
The 2100 has always been mini-USB. -
@rcoleman-netgate thanks- I didn't realize the 2100 was always that way as this is the first one I bought, LOL. No worries on that part.
The docs cover the situation where the driver doesn't load? I couldn't find it. And I honestly did look, LOL. It is very possible that in my panic regarding the password, I missed it. Wouldn't be the first time!!
Thanks.

@marlom I've never had the driver not load.
I have had users that either 1) didn't load them or 2) had the wrong cable. -
@rcoleman-netgate yeah it has something to do with the latest Windows updates. Which is always ugly. And unpredictable. And frustrating.
Not a hard fix, but it is a manual fix.
