pfSense crash...help needed.
-
Hi there,
my pfsense is running on apuboard. About every 2 weeks I get a system crash report (starting about 2 months ago). Since I am just a beginner considering pfsense I need help, since the log does not mean much to me. Attached is everything pfsense spits out in its crash report:
version.txt panic.txt msgbuf.txt ddb.txt config.txtAny ideas? Every hint is appreciated (and please excuse my poor language skills, no native speaker)...

Hi again,
sorry, forgot to mention:
pfsense is 2.6 CE, info about crash shows on top of dashboard. It reboots by itself, would not really notice it except for the hint about crash report... -
I don't recognize that particular panic but the functions in the backtrace are filesystem related (ZFS). It's possible it's a problem in the filesystem, in which case a reinstall might help. It's also possible that it's a hardware problem such as a failing SSD.
I'd swap out the SSD and install fresh again to be safe. If it is a disk problem and you try to reinstall there is a chance it might fail in the middle of that leaving you in a broken state.

Hi there and thanx!
I did some research and:- the crash happens ever since upgrading to 2.6 (no such problems before)
-just last week I did change the SSD (mSSD) and did a complet new install (but recovered the config)
So:
- (m)SSD problems would be a bummer (since completely new 64 GB hardware)
-as far as I understood (which isnt THAT far ;) ) it points out to a hardware problem, so I was lazy and used my "old" config as backup...
Thing is: everything works, no other problems. Just rougly every 2-3 weeks I am greeted with the "crash report" message...it reboots by itself, it does not show any problems in everyday-life work...it just annoys und since it did NEVER EVER do that before 2.6 I was getting a bit curious.
Hm, any other ideas?

It is unfortunate but hardware is most likely to fail when it's very new or very old. See the Bathtub Curve.

Hello again and again, thanx for your reply!
I am with you at the points of failure of new hardware... :)So far, I am glad (and thankful) for you looking at the reports. Glad, because there seems to be no "obvious" config problem.
I guess I will sit it out, since I am playing with the thought of purchasing a new device to run pfs on. I am bugged by this ever since upgrading, but so far (luck?) nothing "happened" with the system (aka break down, not working, nuclear explosions). So I will save my money, not buying yet another mSSD but saving it for the new device (either 4100 or 6100).
Maybe someone has another idea about it (but since a pro like you cannot come up with the ONE solution or explanation, I doubt it -no offense, guys and girls)...
