22.05 Pfsense+ Upgraded - Higher CPU usage?
-
Normally the CPU would bounce between 2% to 5% which is fine. Once in awhile it would spike to 15%.
I have noticed the CPU speeds aren't changing as it stays at 3Ghz all the time. I've checked the PowerD which is enabled and the power settings are set to adaptive. Before the upgrade this was working fine.
I can say once in awhile the CPU speed would go down to around 1Ghz and then bounces back to 3Ghz at 100% all the time now. CPU is capable of 4.5Ghz Turbo Boost but that never happens, it's FreeBSD thing not pfsense.
I will take a look at the services and see if one of them is causing it. Someone suggested pfblocker might be the cause.
CPU at 15% may not seem like a big deal but the problem is it generates alot of heat and I don't have enough cooling in the house to keep it low enough during the summer heat. When CPU speed drops the temps are ok.
I am using my own hardware which is Dell OptiPlex 7000 series.
Thanks.

There's an issue with pfBlocker:

So while I have not noticed any issues with cpu, this got me curious to look to see if temps have changed any since update.
And while it looks very minor from this graph.. Does seem like something has changed..
You can see where the upgrade happened, and does look like the temps are slightly higher.. Have to keep an eye on it for a few days.
If I look at cpu, and day before and day after up the upgrade - the cpu does seem like its working a bit more..

@fragged Yep that's exactly what it was. CPU is back where it should be after I've disabled it. Thank you for confirming it.

@darkk wow your temps really went up.. Mine is like maybe 1-2 C difference..
From those redmines listed - showing some patch details I would expect to see a new pfblocker package somewhat soon.
I do very limited use of pfblocker - maintaining some aliases I use in my own rules, etc.

Yeah, it really depends on the system. On one CE test box here (Core2duo era) it caused the fans to spool up to max! Was really obvious.
