Reinstall pfsense+ on a whitebox to get ZFS
-
I have a whitebox pfsense box that started on CE and was then upgraded to pfSense+ and is currently on 22.05. I'd like to wipe it and reinstall 22.05 to get the ZFS boot environments but I can find an iso image to burn onto a USB stick to do this.
Do I need to go back to pfSense CE and start from there again?

@peterg
For the time being it would beInstall CE 2.6.0 --> Upgrade to 22.01 --> Upgrade to 22.05
If you already have registered it for "Plus" then it should be automatically reckognized as registered for "Plus" when reinstalled.
Unless you have done major hw changes , and your Netgate ID has changed.
Remember to save a "current" backup from 22.05.
pfSense does not guarantee that restoring a backup created on a never version, would restore correct on an older version.
But you kept the config backups from 2.6.0 and 22.01 ... didn't you ??
Else it's no biggie ....
All you need to have working on the 2.6.0 and 22.01 step is to be able to connect the box to the Inet , in order to upgrade.Then when on 22.05 , you can restore the 22.05 config backup you make now ....

Thanks @bingo600 , I didn't realise CE 2.6.0 had ZFS.
I've got backups for everything so it should be straightforward.

Yup ... ZFS was introduced in 2.4.x , but it still used UFS as default.
When you pull your hair , and it says no disk selected during ZFS install , just goto that menu and select the disk w. space , it will show an asterisk.
Don't select the usb stick ...
