I read here https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/install/migrate-to-plus.html that to upgrade to pfSense Plus, my firewall must have a fresh install of pfSense 2.6.0 CE or later. I have pfSense 2.6.0 CE installed and completely configured the way I wish. Do I need an actual fresh install of pfSense 2.6.0 CE or can I use my configured pfSense 2.6.0 CE to upgrade to pfSense Plus? Thank you.

@newuser2pfsense In testing we were able to do with from 2.5.2->2.6->Plus but if you want to use ZFS and haven't formatted that way already you will need to reinstall 2.6.

I installed the ZFS file system when I initially installed pfSense CE prior to 2.6.0. I don't believe the ZFS file system should have changed on all of my upgrades up to 2.6.0. The Disks area of the GUI shows (zfs). So I should be good to upgrade with all of my present settings then? Of course this is on my own iron.

I can answer this question to save some people time.

I originally installed pfSense with ZFS back in the 2.4.x days, and on 2.6.0 posts I read about a "new" ZFS layout so I reinstalled clean.

Well as it turns out the only changes are really minor, the rename of the pool from zroot to pfSense, and some changes in the exec permissions (these can be done via commands post install), there is also a reservation dataset, but that gets added during boot not during install so I assume would work on existing ZFS installs as well. So unless new ZFS features specifically require the pool to be called pfSense, there is no need to reinstall on existing ZFS systems I think.

I welcome corrections if there is other changes I am not aware off.

                pfSense CE 2.8.0

@chrcoluk Thank you for the kind reply.

I'm wondering if the developers could write in their pfSense updates a way to check to see if what's installed is actually correct, and if not, automagically correct it? I would imagine this would make things easier for the user. Any ideas if this can be done or who to ask if this can be done? Thanks.
