Netgate 1100 internet problem
-
Hi all,
I have a Netgate 1100 which is connected to a virgin media "router" which is set in modem mode, the Netgate is also connected to various switches and WiFi is handled by a couple of Ubiquiti AP's. Had this set up for years and has been working perfectly!
Today I cannot seem to get any internet thru to any of the devices on the network.
From the 1100 I can ping 8.8.8.8 and BBC.co.uk with no lost packets average time of 15ms etc, I can also ping all devices on the LAN no trouble at all
From a device on the LAN whether wired of WiFi I can ping the 1100 fine but cannot ping the outside world.
I have done a service status check with virgin and they are showing no issues.
I cannot figure out what's wrong, nothing has changed, no new devices added nor removed, but I have LAN but no WAN from the 1100 back
Does anybody have any ideas of what I can check?
Many thanks

@danholley If you run a traceroute to 8.8.8.8 from the LAN device does it stop at the router?
Have you tried just restarting the 1100? (Diagnostics menu) Also try powering off the ISP router.

@steveits hi Steve, I done a traceroute which for some bizarre reason it found 8.8.8.8, but couldn't get a web page up.
This did however lead me on to looking further into the IP settings and although my PC was receiving an IPV6 gateway from the DHCP server on the 1100, it wasn't receiving an IPV4 gateway.
I saw in the 1100' DHCP config page that there is a setting to specify the gateway address if it is different to the 1100' own IP. I put in the 1100 IP to see if it would "force" that IP down to the clients and voila after restarting the networking on each client it picked up an IPV4 address of the 1100 and all is working fine.
Thing is I don't know why this is happened or why I have to force this gateway address. Only thing that has changed is 1100 updated but that was last Monday.
Thanks for your help though Steve

@danholley That is weird. And as you say bizarre if 8.8.8.8 was reachable. :) But you're welcome.
