We had a power failure and after restarting the Netgate 3100, we had no DHCP, internet, etc --> nothing was being processed by the 3100. I couldn't connect to it with the web app, so I connected to the serial console. On connection, I hit <enter> and started getting a bunch of messages about starting various services - firewall, dhcp, etc. When that was complete, everything was working normally and I could connect again with the web app.

I tried this a couple more times with the same result every time - even after waiting hours for the boot to finish. It won't finish until I connect to the console.

I have never had any trouble from this device so I thought maybe it was dying. I ordered a 6100. I got it up and running today, but have the exact same issue with it. I did restore settings from the 3100, so maybe it's something I've configured incorrectly?

Anyone experienced anything similar? Any suggestions on where to look for the problem?

@cloew Most of the time this is caused by an OpenVPN password prompt.

I do have OpenVPN running. Is there a way around the prompt?
