Black screen after menu, 1st boot
-
Hi,
Ive done a clean install, version: 2.6.0
The install looks good, I chose a ufei boot with GPT, the entire disk.
Thats fine.
I remove the media, boot, its fine, I get the console menu.
Without changing anything. i.e not assigning IP's. No changes exactly as it installed.
I do a option, I think its 5 to reboot. I select y for a normal reboot.
It shutdown, reboots, PFSense menu, wait a couple of seconds. Then black screen and never comes to anything.
From another system, ping does not respond.
I do not know how to get any more info.The cards are Realtek type cards. Which it claims are ok , when its installing and successfully boots after install.
I'm new to PFSense, I currently use IPFire.
I don't think this is important. Its an i7 , I think 16G ram, 1 TB disk.Does anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like a possible console mismatch.
What console type are you using, serial or video?
What's the last thing that is shown when booting?

Hi,
Thank you.
The monitor is connected via HDMI.
The download options I selected were :
AMD - 64bit , USB Memstick, VGA , Frankfurt, Germany.It boots as the instal finishes.
It boots to the normal console menu.
Because I was having problems. As a test, I decided not to make any config changes. Nothing.
Just install, boot and select reboot.I then select the option to reboot I think its 5, then y for a normal reboot.
I see the bios, the option to boot, start shell etc.
I wait a couple of seconds.
Then the black screen.Thank you.

I would bet it's the UEFI boot selection, try legacy mode GPT

@nollipfsense Hi,
Thank you. It does actually boot and begins to load pfsense.
I do see the initial menu, which I let the counter finish and it moves to the next stage. Which I assume is loading drivers, config and init various things.If it was a UFEI, GPT problem, I would not see the initial menu.
Thank you.

@jessicaseuk Hi,
I did try everything in legacy and use MBR.
Thank you, because it did boot, I would never have thought of that and you can see from my earlier comment.I'm now at the stage of being able to config it.
Thank you again and please accept my apologies for the comment left circa 4 hours ago -
@jessicaseuk Wished you had format as legacy with GPT, though.
