      What, if any, is the command to reset pfsense to factory default. Both web gui and console are corrupted in some manner a result of restoring a corrupted config XML.

        Depending on how broken it is you might be able to do:

        [2.7.0-DEVELOPMENT][admin@cedev-3.stevew.lan]/root: /etc/rc.initial.defaults
        
        You are about to reset the firewall to factory defaults.
        The firewall will reboot after resetting the configuration.
        All additional packages installed will be removed.
        Do you want to proceed [y|n]?

          @tedquade Seems it was quite broken. Did a bare-metal memstick install and config restore. Am now back in operation.
