I need to purchase a battery backup for my pfsense box. For PC's in my household, I have a slight preference for CyberPower over APC.

For operation of the UPS, I'd like it to shut pfsense when the battery gets to 35%, delay a slight bit and turn itself off, and then once power is restored turn on along with everything attached to it.

Looking thru the forums it looks like the CyberPower interface may be more challenging. Based on experience, should I go with the APC, or can I get the CyberPower to work without a lot of extra work? Thanks.

I've had mixed results with CyberPower. One worked with the apcupsd and nut interfaces, but another did not. But even the one that "worked" still did not provide all the status information. Both supposedly supported a USB interface.

Never had an APC unit give me problems interfacing with PCs or firewall appliances. So, my vote is APC. They usually cost a little more, but I can (so far) depend on them to interface reliably with the PC hardware they are protecting.

If you're connecting the UPS to pfSense dircetly then you need something that will work with APCUPSD or NUT. If you have something else near that can connect to the UPS and run NUT then you could just run the NUT client on pfSense.

Thanks for the replies. This would be direct connect via USB. I was figuring NUT or APCUPSD as mentioned.

I have APC and use apcupsd with it.
