-Test Just for fun -Disconnecting SATA drive and reconnecting SATA cable never recovers on it's own.
-
Probably more of a Free BSD question that PFSense really-
Just for fun and I will also try this on other hardware soon
This happens to be an AMD Motherboard system. If I quickly (or for any period of time) disconnect the SATA cable on the one and only OS drive.
it never recovers and comes back.
You see a message on the screen "detached periph destroyed *with other items like drive serial number device ID postion "When you plug the sata cable back in you see it reported on the screen, device ide serial number transfer speed etc.
But disc functions never appear to ever come back.
you can't login or list disk contents or even reload the console menu..
Things are pretty much frozen at the console and there's no web ui of course.
But the router continues to function as the router and firewall it is in RAM.
For half a day now.
But management and monitoring are lost. until hard reset or power cycled.I guess this is normal? :)
It's just a test box and I had to try it.
I tried with hot-plugging turned on and turned off in the bios.
Seemed to make no difference on this.-Steve

@n8lbv .... That's because hotswapping is probably not supported on your hardware.
Why are you doing this, exactly?
-
@rcoleman-netgate I am exactly doing this for fun and education.
And at this point am curious why the drive does not come back.
If you can turn on/off hot swapping/plugging in the hardware's bios it us usually supported. -
