Website thinks I'm behind VPN
-
Mint Mobile and other VPN Testing website thinks my static IP is behind VPN and disallow me to make transactinos.
Any idea why? I have basic static IP, basic PfSense config and enabled pfBlockerNG. This wasn't an issue when I was using Asus router.

@jt8585 So the IP address you get if you visit https://www.ipchicken.com/ matches the static IP you received from your ISP?
-
@michmoor Yes, same IP.
-
@jt8585 not really sure how pfsense is responsible for how websites view your IP. The only thing I can think of is that you may be testing on a client that has a vpn client turned on
-
@michmoor I have no VPN clients.... maybe just something wrong with Mint Mobil website....
-
@jt8585 If I look up the IP you connected to forums with - yeah it shows as VPN, and is blacklisted etc..Says 99% chance abusive IP, etc..
Checked here https://www.ipqualityscore.com
But as @michmoor stated what does that have to do with pfsense - pfsense has no control over what reputation or lists the IP you get from your isp has..
So unless you specifically setup a VPN in pfsense for your clients to use, this has nothing to do with pfsense. Get with your ISP if you are not running your own vpn client on pfsense, or your actual device your using to connect to stuff with.

Its possible he is infected with a malware or he is using some malicious browser plugin. Some free and fake antivirus software can do that too.
But still, none of those things has nothing to do with pfsense.
-
@nimrod quite possible - maybe his browser is infected and sending stuff through some proxy off this IP. Or maybe he enabled some vpn addon, etc. Many browsers these days provide for vpn sort of relay stuff, etc.
This comes to mind
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/products/vpn/MS edge has some new vpn for sure built in, and Safari from Apple has their own relay service, etc.
And completely agree - this really has zero to do with pfsense, only way pfsense has any involvement at all here is if he on purpose setup a vpn client on pfsense to route his traffic through this IP that is listed.
And even if that is the case - not pfsense problem if you route through some vpn and the IP used has a bad rep, etc.
If he is not using a vpn, be it on pfsense or his client - and he is not infected or using something on his device/browser routing his traffic through this proxy/vpn etc. Then he needs to get with his ISP on why their IPs are listed on bad lists, and why it might be listed as a vpn IP if it is not.
Have seen where some places categorize a IPv6 tunnel through HE as vpn - because well it sort of is, a tunnel to HE could be used to hide your true location and your traffic is routed through their network via the tunnel.

I would say it’s possibly not malware as the OP did confirm that the IP given to him is expected.
OP should reach out to his service provider -
@michmoor concur - if the IP is what his ISP gave him - time to ask the ISP why its showing as a VPN and has such a horrible reputation.. Might be time to change ISPs as well..
I checked a few other reputation sites, and not seeing the IP he connected to the forums listed - but that one site I linked to above - sure doesn't like it.. Gives it a really bad score, says its vpn/proxy and and high risk, says listed on spam lists - but if I check spam lists I don't see it there, etc.
