We are excited to announce our newest secure networking appliance, the Netgate 8200 with pfSense Plus software – the fastest Intel Atom-based firewall we offer, in a whisper-quiet rack mount configuration. We expect it will be a popular edge gateway solution for remote offices, edge deployments, managed service providers, and enterprise networks.

@mleighton Hello,
I have a question: what is the brand/model of the SFP nic inside the 8200 ?(I'm assuming there is a single nic behind the two ports?) Is it possible to have the reference?
From the description ethernet ports are using an intel i226 controller, but there is no information on the SFP ports.

The 10G SFP ports (
ix0
,ix1
) and 1G combo ports (ix2
,ix3
) are all Intel X553.ix0@pci0:3:0:0: class=0x020000 rev=0x11 hdr=0x00 vendor=0x8086 device=0x15c4 subvendor=0x8086 subdevice=0x0000 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = 'Ethernet Connection X553 10 GbE SFP+' class = network subclass = ethernet bar [10] = type Prefetchable Memory, range 64, base 0x80400000, size 2097152, enabled bar [20] = type Prefetchable Memory, range 64, base 0x80604000, size 16384, enabled ix1@pci0:3:0:1: class=0x020000 rev=0x11 hdr=0x00 vendor=0x8086 device=0x15c4 subvendor=0x8086 subdevice=0x0000 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = 'Ethernet Connection X553 10 GbE SFP+' class = network subclass = ethernet bar [10] = type Prefetchable Memory, range 64, base 0x80200000, size 2097152, enabled bar [20] = type Prefetchable Memory, range 64, base 0x80600000, size 16384, enabled ix2@pci0:2:0:0: class=0x020000 rev=0x11 hdr=0x00 vendor=0x8086 device=0x15e4 subvendor=0x8086 subdevice=0x0000 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = 'Ethernet Connection X553 1GbE' class = network subclass = ethernet bar [10] = type Prefetchable Memory, range 64, base 0x80a00000, size 2097152, enabled bar [20] = type Prefetchable Memory, range 64, base 0x80c04000, size 16384, enabled ix3@pci0:2:0:1: class=0x020000 rev=0x11 hdr=0x00 vendor=0x8086 device=0x15e4 subvendor=0x8086 subdevice=0x0000 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = 'Ethernet Connection X553 1GbE' class = network subclass = ethernet bar [10] = type Prefetchable Memory, range 64, base 0x80800000, size 2097152, enabled bar [20] = type Prefetchable Memory, range 64, base 0x80c00000, size 16384, enabled

Wow that's an impressive device. Rivals the Netgate XG-1541 with a lot less power requirement.
-
@ericnix The product is very good but the entry price is high.

@192-168-1-1 Ok........I think the entry point for a Palo Alto 4400 is pretty high.........

Compared to what hardware you mean?
Supermicro A2SDV-8C-LN10PF ~760 €
Supermicro case & PSU ~200 €
16 GB RAM ~117 €
M.2 SSD ~90 €
WiFi card ~35 €all in all around ~1200 € and this is not far away from the
Netgate hardware! -
@dobby_ none. Just responding to the previous poster that the 8200 "entry" price is high.
Its just very subjective so i added a nonsensical point that a PA is expensive. -
