During some lab testing I tried to set up two FW4C boxes as follows:

      alt text

From two fresh installs of 2.60 CE I went through the setup wizard and set up the left unit's WAN addresses as 192.168.150.2/30.

Then I tried to set up the right unit's WAN address as 192.168.150.3/30, and I got the “Invalid WAN IP Address” error.

Of course this was user error, because 192.168.150.3 would be the broadcast address for a /30 network, but I didn't know that, and the error message didn't give me any clues.

I eventually punted and gave it a different address to get through the setup wizard, and after I rebooted and logged in normally (e.g. no longer in the setup wizard) and attempted to set the WAN as 192.168.150.3/30, I got the more specific error "This IPv4 address is the broadcast address and cannot be used."

Would it make sense to use this same error string for this same user error in the initial setup?
