      I’m trying to install pfSense for the first time. The installation went well, but I’m not able to ping the pfSense box from another computer on the network. I am able to ping any computer on the network from the pfSense computer. Outgoing pings from the pfSense computer do work. Incoming pings do not.
      The network configuration is 1) Comcast router to 2) pfSense computer to 3) switch that’s connected to 2 linux computers. The cable from the internet is connected to the RJ45 port on the motherboard. The cable to the LAN connected to the em1 port on a Quad Port PCIE NIC adapter.
      The pfSense box is an AMD Ryzen 3rd Gen, ASRock A320M-HDV AM4 motherboard, IBM 39Y6138 Intel EXPI9402PTL PRO/1000 PT Quad Port Gigabit PCI-e x4 Adapter NIC, Samsung 970 Evo storage.
      *** Welcome to pfSense 2.6.0-RELEASE (am64) on pfSense ***
      WAN (wan) -> re0 -> v4/DHCP4: 192.168.0.187/24
      LAN (lan) -> em0 -> v4: 192.168.1.1/24
      OPT1 (opt1) -> em1 ->
      OPT2 (opt2) -> em2 ->
      OPT3 (opt3) -> em3 ->
      I had FreeBSD 13.1 installed on this computer and all the network connections were fine.
      The automatic interface assignment detects the WAN, but not the LAN.
      As per Section 2.10. Troubleshooting in the FreeBSD Handbook, I added hint.acpi.0.disabled="1" to the /boot/loader.conf file with no noticeable difference.
      The command ifconfig -a shows that re0 has status: active, em0 status: no carrier, em1 status: active, em2 status: no carrier, em3 status: no carrier. The WAN is connected to re0 and the LAN is connected to em1.

        @victor-2 You wrote LAN was both em0 and em1?

        Either way, the default rules on LAN allow pinging from LAN. Other interfaces have no rules.

        If you plug a pc directly into LAN what happens? If it works try a different switch…?

        Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
        When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

          Don't use the Realtek NIC if you have Intel NICs!
          The Driver support is badly.

          Netgate 6100 & Netgate 2100
