Clicking on help links while in the Bind package redirects to the pfSense doc main page. Whether I attempt a manual link or automated, I find a big fat blank on anything related to Bind.

Could this be a bug related to the old conversion of docs to github?

      • No doc page on Bind package, nor the custom Bind UI https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/packages/index.html
      • Help goes to root of docs at every step of the way
        https://my-server.dom.ain/help.php?page=bind.xml
        https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/help/bind.xml

Why I'm even looking: in the Bind package, Views tab, the GUI and the explanatory notes are more than a little confusing:

      match-clients
         none
         any
         localhost
         localnets

If either or both of match-clients are missing they default to any (all hosts match). The match-clients statement defines the address_match_list for the source IP address of the incoming messages.

Huh? What's "either or both of match-clients"?
How is "localnets" defined? Is there a way to specify which local nets?

      allow-recursion
       none
       any
       localhost
       localnets

For example, if you have one DNS server serving your local network, you may want all of your local computers to use your DNS server.

That's not exactly a clear explanation of what "allow-recursion" means???

@mrpete bind is very well documented

for example here is some info about views

        https://kb.isc.org/docs/aa-00851
Understanding views in BIND 9, with examples

The bind package is a gui to bind settings.. If you have questions about bind settings and how they work prob best to go to the source for information.

Could the notes on settings be better - most likely. But to be honest anyone using the bind package in pfsense, should really understand how to use bind already ;)

If your wanting to get up to speed on bind, I would highly recommend this book
        https://www.oreilly.com/library/view/dns-and-bind/0596100574/

Don't let the publish date fool you - the information is still quite useful. And will give you a good base to work with in understanding bind.

I actually got a signed & dedicated one from the "Master him self".
I was attending an Infoblox Seminar on DNS with Cricket as speaker.
And was asking an "Intelligent question" , this was the reward šŸ‘
