Portable printer Brother through LAN/VLAN (WiFi)

Hello geeks,
I have a big issue. I work on an enviroment that I have a LAN and a VLAN in a PfSense+. Lan is with 192.168.0.1 and VLAN is on other warehouse with the IP 192.168.6.1 where I have all other systems such computers, wifi, etcetera.
My printer doesn't print (RJ-4250WB) if It's in the warehouse either in static nor dhcp IP using rules from the firewall. I have tried Virtual IPs, Aliases, new VLAN only for printers, but nothing of them worked...How would do to work on this printer in any subnet by hostname or something similar?

@toni-martinez Lots of missing details here so not sure if you are trying to attack this problem from a network perspective or a system/pc-support point of view.
- How are the 2x sites connected? Does each site know how to reach each other?
- Is the printer in the correct VLAN? Do you have firewall rules for that printer VLAN? Do you have firewall rules for the other site that would prevent it from reaching the printer?
- Does your printer get an IP from DHCP? Is it the correct IP for devices in that VLAN?
- Does your printer work locally at the warehouse for anyone else to use?
Who set up the pfsense?

Many printers do not automatically work across different subnets. Typically this is because they use some manner of multicast for the "client" and "printer" to find each other and exchange data.
Assuming basic network connectivity exists between those two networks (meaning you can reliably ping devices by IP address in one subnet from the other), then I would suspect that printer/device discovery across subnets is the issue. You need to read the manual or perhaps check with the printer vendor to see if (and how) it works across different IP subnets where the client is in one subnet (or VLAN) and the printer is in another. Also remember that in Windows world, the built-in Windows Firewall will, by default, block unsolicited traffic inbound from a subnet that is different from the one where the Windows machine is located. You may need to investigate if the client firewall is blocking the access and not pfSense.

Guys, I just solved the problem adding this printer by his DNS name (hostname), and then a static IP with his MAC so through LAN and VLAN have the same end IP (192.168.x.240) so now I can print like a raw printer without any problem. Also, I found, my domain controller wasn't having any register dns...solved too.

Huh??? Your printer should only be in 1 network/vlan

But it's accessible at the same IP from both is I think what is meant there.

@stephenw10 ok - why would he word it like that with place holder for the actual network octet being either 0 or 6 as he stated his networks were?
So I take it the printer is 192.168.6.240 in the warehouse network, and he can print to it from the lan network 192.168.0/24 ?

Yeah, I had to read the post one more time to get it, but that's what think as well. Sounds like he was trying to access the printer by hostname and failing due to the DHCP dynamic DNS registration not being configured. He never made it clear in the OP that he was trying to print via a hostname.

@bmeeks Yep, I made a rule that both lan and vlan is visible this printer and having a static IP by MAC address. And also, I tried to print this printer in any lan/vlan by his hostname but my domain controllers wasn't having any register DNS so that's why through LAN wasn't having ping to this printer but it's solved... (Sorry for my english, I'm not used to speak it)

@johnpoz Nop, in LAN automatically have a static IP by MAC address through PfSense, also in VLAN too. 192.168.0.240 (LAN) and 192.168.6.240 (VLAN). But the real problem was I was configuring via IP, not hostname and my domain controllers wasn't having register DNS to find this printer via hostname. Thank y'all anyway!

So you move this printer from network to network?
if the printer is in the lan and has an IP of 192.168.0.240 - why would you think you need a 192.168.6.240 address?

@johnpoz Yep, the printer have DHCP protocol but PfSense gives him a Static IP for both networks. So I needed to update DNS and find him trough hostname. The static IP it's for only inventory use, there's no impact, I think.

So you move this printer from time to time?
If the printer on lan 192.168.0.240, why do you think it also needs an IP in the vlan? 192.168.6.240?
A device in lan would use the 192.168.0.240 address, and something on the vlan that wanted to print to this printer would also print to its 192.168.0.240 address..

@johnpoz I tried to print by IP with correct rules but didn't worked, neither do pings so by hostname yes

What IP is on the printer 192.168.0.240, or 192.168.6.240
Which IP does your hostname point to? How could it point to both. The printer is either on the lan or its on the warehouse network. How could you have it on both?
