MypfSense.home.arpa - Interfaces_ WAN (alc0).zip [MypfSense.home.arpa - Interfaces_ WAN (alc0).pdf](Invalid file type. Allowed types are: .png, .jpg, .bmp, .txt, .gif, .xls, .gz, .zip, .pcap, .pcapng, .7z, .xml, .jpeg, .diff, .patch, .tgz, .tar, .0, .cap) Hi,

My ISP have a router with WAN and wifi which works as a DHCP also.
I have a old laptop whre I installed pfSense in order to have all the services to work with.
Now I would like to disable the wifi from the router of the ISP and connect the router to the laptop, and want the pfSence to be my firewall, have a DHCP server and connect a router wifi.
When I go to Services/ DHCP server I have the message:

"The DHCP Server requires a static IPv4 subnet large enough to serve addresses to clients. This system has no interfaces configured with a static IPv4 address."

At Interfaces/WAN I have the static IP 192.168.10.1/24 and the check on "Enable interface" (please see attach file MypfSense.home.arpa - Interfaces_ WAN (alc0).zip).

      Anyone can help?

      Thanks in advance.

It's not the WAN that's concerned. What's the LAN set as?
Does the laptop have 2 NICs in it?

First of all @jarhead thanks for trying to help.
I don't have no LAN interface, only WAN... perhaps I made some mistake when installing pfSense.

The laptop only have one NIC, I thinh I have another that connects to the USB port, but I don't know what to do with it, my idea is to use it for connecting to the router wifi.

          Thanks

            See https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/solutions/sg-1100/router-on-a-stick.html

Or get a second NIC working.

go into the console and select Number 1) Assign Interfaces.
The first thing it asks is if vlans should be setup, say yes.
Add 2 vlans, one will be WAN, the other LAN.

You're gonna need a vlan capable switch to connect to by doing this. If you don't have one, you need 2 nics in the laptop. No way around that.

                Hi @jarhead and @Patch

I think I will buy a new NIC because the one I got (see image) is not detected or pfsense doesn't have the appropriate drivers.

Do you know what NIC should I buy (to be plugged on USB) that will be plug & play with pFsense?

                Thanks.

@pgomes2000 USB nics are really not the way to go but if you search the forum you can find ones that work.
You're really better off buying a vlan capable switch and going that route. Probably cost the same.

                      @jarhead I gonna buy a switch vlan D-Link.

Since I'm not an expert with networking, the WAN from my ISP is to be connected to the WAN port of the switch and then the laptop to a port on the switch, right?

It's better to install again pfSense? is there any tutorial for the VLAN's?

                      Thanks for so many questions.

@pgomes2000 Let's say you use vlan 10 for the WAN and VLAN 11 for the LAN. You can use any number you want between 2 and 4093.

You would connect the nic from the laptop to one port on the switch. This port will need both vlans tagged on it. It's called a "trunk" port.
Then you would untag vlan 10 on another port. That port will connect to your internet.
Untag vlan 11 on any other ports you want to be LAN ports.
