Issue with LAN interface only transmitting at 100Mbp (Solved)
-
Hi, I have an issue where my pfsense LAN interface is only running at 100Mbps.
pfSense is showing that the LAN interface is running at 1000baseT <full-duplex,master>
my switches (i tried a few different ones) also shows a gigabit connection, however when I run iperf3 I only get 100Mbps.What I have tried
Different network cables
Different switches
Rebooting
Manually setting Speed and DuplexBefore I used this pc for pfsense i ran windows on it and had gigabit speed.
Hardware
Dell motherboard with BCM57780 onboard Ethernet
i7 CPU 860
8GB RAMNot sure what else to try.
Update fixed mbps to Mbps

100 millibit??? Wow, that is slow!
First thing to check is your cable. A bad cable can cause a Gb interface to run at 100 Mb. Some devices have LEDs that indicate what speed it's running at.

@ageekhere What kind of NIC?
If it's a realtek, search this forum since you already tried cables and other things. -
@ageekhere well pfsense doesn't like those broadcoms for whatever reason. do ou have another machine lying around you can try it on?
-
@JKnott Tried changing cables and all LEDs indicate Gb speed.
@Jarhead Yeah i am thinking of getting a second hand X540 Intel
@hescominsoon I have used a few different pc's running pfSense and this is the first time I got the 100Mbps issue, I am also thinking it is not liking the broadcom onboard nic.

You see any log entries from the bge driver? Those NICs are a relatively known quantity at this point. I wouldn't have expected to see an issue there.
There's definitely no traffic shaping in play?
-
@stephenw10 Thanks there was an old disabled traffic rule in there. I deleted it and the speed was the same, then i reset the states and now that seems to have fixed it, i am getting over 100Mbps now on lan.

Ah, yes if something was holding open the states that would do it. The states from the tests would have to match it though and they would normally be different each test.
