Question on the Netgate CPIC-8955 (QAT) card
-
Has anyone used this card:
Netgate CPIC-8955 Cryptographic Accelerator Card with QAT in a Dell 650 server?
The OS on the server is RH Linux 7.9. The issue I am seeing, and trying to figure out, is that after the card is installed and OS is loaded, the card isnt always seen by the OS.
IE
OS install (no drivers yet)
lspci | grep -i qat #to verify OS sees the cardIt is at the above step that the card will sometimes show and other times not. Re-seating the card will sometimes get it to show up... only for it to not be seen again at some later point. Another re-seating may get it to show again, but the "it there/not there" behavior is not viable for use.
Any info would be appreciated.

Not aware of any reports of similar behaviour.
Are you able to test it in something else? Or test another card in that same PCIe slot?

initially, testing it in something else wasnt an option as there was no server available. Since then, a Dell 750 server was made available and all cards tested good - OS was able to see the card.
So, QAT cards all appear good - trying to figure out why its a hit/miss on the Dell 650 with seeing the card.

Some resource conflict with something that has dynamic address space maybe?
When it fails do you see any errors at boot?
-
Errors on boot... hmmm... Have seen some interesting things - but its not consistent.
- on boot, sometimes see pcie errors
- on boot, dont see pcie errors, but OS (on Dell 650) doesnt see card
- on boot, dont see pcie errors, OS (on Dell 650) sees card
- on reboot, 50/50 on whether it will see card again.
So far, none of the above has been noticed on the Dell 750.

Hmm, well it would be good to see example of those errors.
Could be any number of things but the fact it seems to vary randomly makes me think it's some resource being assigned with some variation at boot.
Not sure what you could do about that. Usually the sort of thing that a BIOS update might fix.Steve
