      Dear folks,

as I have run into an error yesterday upgrading my netgate 6100 to the 23.01 (php with pfblockerNG) I have seen that my pfsense is a very crucial node for my network - so needs a backup/test machine.

so i have thought about getting a netgate 2100.

Question 1: Is it possible to migrate my 6100-config to a new 2100 (both on pfsense +)- Goal would be to test all new upgrades on the 2100 first with nearly the same config and upgrade the 6100 if tested successfully

Question 2: I have a little pico pc from pondesk. but this cannot run the psense + edition (i think it is the CE edition). Would it be possible to set this device as a backup device. Main question: Is it valid to evaluate changes/errors in the community edition compared to the plus edition or are the systems too different

Thanks a lot for your help

@paoloest How many interfaces are you using on the 6100? The 2100 has a switch for LAN. It can use VLANs to isolate ports but that’s not part of a restore.

Plus and CE are diverging over time but still close. 22.05 was after 2.6, and 2.7 is not out yet. The “config versions” are listed here:
        https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/releases/versions.html

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

We can convert that config for you so it imports directly into the 2100 if you open a support ticket:

I almost pointed that out but OP wants it as a testbed/backup, so you'd be converting it frequently... :) Unless the config was static enough it didn't matter and/or could be easily replicated by hand as changes were made on the 6100.

Good point! Yeah we can't be converting that all the time but it might serve as a useful example.
