      I am using pfsense on HP T730 with broadcom 5719 quad port NIC. I switched to a WAN static IP from DHCP. The PON unit from the ISP is working in bridge mode. Pfsense reports packet loss and looses the internet connection about every 30 minutes.

      I ran a test by connecting the ISP PON directly to a windows computer and running ping for an hour, there were no packet drops. When I do the same by connecting the computer via pfsense box, it drops the ping packets.

      Here's what I have tried.

      • Replaced the NIC and switched out the HP box with a different one twice.
      • Fix the MTU on the WAN port to 1464 but I am still getting the same issues.

      Any idea how can I fix this.

        UPDATE: I removed the pfsense box and installed a Unifi security gateway, the internet connection is stable with absolutely no packet loss

            @jsingh04 replaces the HP box with the same HO box with the same Broadcom drivers?
            It seems you found the issue which is likely Broadcom which I wouldnt use for networking anyway.
            Weird to blame pfsense….

              @michmoor
              I have two spare HP T730 boxes: one with the same Broadcom 5719 NIC and the other with Intel pro 1000. I tried using both but I am getting the same issue.

              Furthermore, I have also tried disabling hardware offload with absolutely no effect.

              The weird thing is that I am using a similar setup at my home with the same ISP with a broadcom NIC and that works fine

              I have noticed that it usuallyt happens when the ARP entry for WAN gateway refreshes i.e. around 1200 seconds
