Ooma Telo does not respect DHCP’s DNS servers
-
I had an issue, where my Ooma Telo VoIP device (to provide a landline of sorts) wasn’t connecting to its VoIP servers.
It turns out that, because I have outbound rules that block all outgoing connections on Port 53 (DNS) that don’t go to the OpenDNS servers, it couldn’t phone home. I put in an extra rule permitting all internet access coming from the specific IP address the Ooma Telo has on my network.
What a screwy way to configure your devices! They evidently hard-coded the DNS servers the device uses.
I put in this rule for my LAN interface, right below the anti-lockout rule:
Now it works again.
