      Moving pfsense CE 2.6.0-RELEASE (amd64)
from pc with realtek NICs to one with Intel NICs
      downloaded config file
changed all the interface names in the xml file from
      re0 to igb0 (LAN)
      and re1 to igb1 (WAN)
then restored the new xml file

I can ssh into the new pc, but no web interface
      tried
      Restart webConfigurator
      that didn't work

      any ideas

@oldfart said in swap computers, no GUI:

Show the menu you see right after login.

Use the console, not SSH, and re assign again interface, be careful with DHCP setup - pool size.
Be careful not to setup LAN 192.168.1.1/32 on LAN as such a thing would break everything etc etc.

I've been there : export / replace / import the config.xml as I thought : hey, only interface NIC names change. I was usung a white box first (old dell PC) and since then a Netgate 4100.
        Well .... it was tedious.
I rebuild the system from crash, with the printed config.xml as a guide line.
One reason more to keep things simple.
These days I consider a device unique backup unique to that device ;)
The config.xml is device unique as it also contain Netgate device ID's etc.

        Good thing.
        rex might work.
        igb is far better.

No "help me" PM's please. Use the forum, the community will thank you.
Edit : and where are the logs ??

@oldfart Remove the interface first on old PC, then make config backup, then install clean pfSense on the new/other PC and restore config backup.

          pfSense+ 23.09 Lenovo Thinkcentre M93P SFF Quadcore i7 dual Raid-ZFS 128GB-SSD 32GB-RAM PCI-Intel i350-t4 NIC, -Intel QAT 8950.

            solved
All done from the web gui
Brand new install (with intel NICs)
            Restore old configuration (Realtek NICs)
Pfsense will whinge that your interface assignments are incorrect.
DO NOT REBOOT at this stage

go to Interfaces | Assignments | PPPs
edit the Link Interface to the Intel NIC

            repeat for VLANs
Now Pfsense will ask to reboot - do it - now it works!
