More than 4GB RAM in PFSense 1.2.3-RC1
Does pfsense 1.2.3-RC1 support more than 4 gb RAM? I install in a 6gb HP ML350 and only 4GB was detected by pfsense. How change it?
Do ya need the extra 2???
It´s not a bad idea. ;D
I do not think it's good idea. You can install as many gigs as you wish but pfSense will not see more than 4 GB.
32 bit OS's can only address a maximum of 4 gigs of memory. I've got 4 gigs of memory installed on 1 pfSense box and it ignores the top 512 mbs (needed to re-address video and such). System runs fine though.
According to the following thread the 32 bit version apparently works better than the 64 bit version of FreeBSD.
32 bit OS's can only address a maximum of 4 gigs of memory.
This is a common misconception. The way virtual memory works means it's quite logical and feasible to address a far larger memory area than the processor's native address space. You can get up to 64GB of RAM on most Intel CPUs since Pentium Pro.
But I agree with the rest, I hardly see the point for pfSense. Pull the RAM and use it somewhere it'll do you go, or just pull it period and save a little bit of power.
