I just received a i350 2port NIC from Amazon (link) and put in in my pfsense box. I don't see new interfaces available and I see this when I run dmesg - "pci0: <simple comms> at device 22.0 (no driver attached)". I put the card in my windows machine and updated the firmware and all looks good there, I just can't get pfsense to recognize it. Would there be an issue with FreeBSD 14.0 compared to 13 when it comes to the driver?

      pfsense 23.01-RELEASE. FreeBSD14.0-CURRENT
      ASRock H170M-ITX motherboard
      i5-6500 CPU

      Any thoughts? Thanks.

As I'm learning/reading, looks like there pfsense never used FreeBSD 13.x . . . so I'll say "compared to 12" - but I'm not sure that makes sense either. The em/igb drivers should be there as one of the onboard NICs is an Intel i219-v. Anyway - thoughts and recommendations are appreciated.

@toxicbill Some of the reviews on the Amazon link you provide say they're not genuine Intel NICs but chinese knock-offs.

Not really sure what your usage is, but I'd return it and look on EBay for an used OEM i350 server pull.

Check the output of pciconf -lv for unattached network devices. Check the PCI IDs it using against the driver.

@vollans I see that now. I initially saw several reviews where it said it worked with pfsense. Too good to be true I suppose.

I did pull the trigger on eBay with an old server pull, which ended up being cheaper. Lesson learned.

@toxicbill Yeah, they'll counterfeit the original Intel card but won't bother going to the OEM server level.

@provels Actually, they're not counterfeit...the same exact manufacturer that makes Intel ones make those...like all things, some may not come off the floor right or good. I have had two or three "Chinese" make that had been working for over five years or more, now.
