Dynamic Routing on WAN with RIP
-
I got an interesting one, I am trying to install pfSense 2.6.0 CE as my main router for my Static IP block. I got a /28 block of IPs so gateway + 13 Static IPs. The way my service is setup is with my ISP is that it connects via DCHPv6 then logs in via RIP to authenticate and then updates the routing table then I can use my static IPv4 addresses. I have all of the login info for the RIPv2, but I haven't been able to figure out how to setup pfSense to connect to it directly so I am stuck with this router in front of pfSense that slows my connection down drastically as add more latency time to all of my outgoing and incoming connections.
When I connect pfSense directly to the modem's 2.5GB port I get the advertised 1000Mbps down but I can only use the dynamic IP my static IPs won't work. But when I put their router in front of pfSense so I can use my static IPs I only get about 200Mbps at best. It's a toy Askey router and it has only a single 1GB WAN port.
Please help this is the only ISP I can get in my area and their service is terrible, they have replaced the router 2 time already and it doesn't make any difference. They just swap it out and they say it's the only router that will work with my configuration that they have available. The last tech that came out felt so bad that I am getting the run around with their support that he gave me all of the RIP login info and said just configure pfSense and remove their router all together. He said he doesn't know pfSense that well but he said it can do it, it just need to be configured properly on the WAN to use RIP.
RIP Key ID: 1
RIP prefix: xxx.xxx.xxx.0 /255.255.255.240 (13 IPs)
RIP Default Gateway: xxx.xxx.xxx.1
Key String: c@bl3r1p
Advertising Interval: 30
Alias: <my company name>
Authentication Mode: MD5Please if anyone knows how to set this up in pfSense any help will be greatly appreciated.

@howardb you going to need the FRR package - believe it can do rip.. Just at a loss to why a isp would be doing it this way to be honest.. RIP is ancient!!!

Thanks I will look into the FFR package.
As to them using RIP like I said they are a crappy ISP... They used to use all just regular SurfBoard docsis 3.0 modems and everything was great. But they got sold on this shitty taiwanese Askey hardware and management software (I think because they took over time warner and roadrunner, this is the junk they were using). Well I think I might have gave it away to you which ISP this is, hopefully I don't piss off the ISP overlords and they zap my hardware for being an ungrateful customer LMAO...
