Issues with pfSense Plus package servers?
-
I attempted to use the package manager earlier and was having issues. I then found multiple people suggesting reinstalling, so I took a backup, installed CE 2.6.0, and went to upgrade it to pfSense Plus. When I do, it's telling me it is "Unable to check for updates".
Is this something on my end or is this something on Netgate's end? I'd like to have this resolved quickly if possible since there's no way to directly install pfSense Plus and I cannot upgrade pfSense CE to pfSense Plus right now. My backup is for pfSense Plus and this has thrown a wrench into, and taken my entire network with it.
Thanks.

I came back here looking for replies and have cooled off a little. Before I had been fighting with my install for a few hours and was pretty heated. I tried to tone down my message, but I feel like it was still pretty rude so I apologize for that.
I am still having issues though, so if anyone has any ideas I'm all ears.
I remembered I had another install of pfSense Plus on another device to I pulled it out and restored my config to it. It as well is not able to talk to the repos. I cannot get the "Available Packages" tab to show anything and the "System" > "Updates" screen shows "Unable to check for updates" on this device as well.
On the device I reinstalled with CE 2.6.0, I can check for updates against the 2.6.0 branch, the 2.7.0 dev branch, and the previous 2.5.x branch, but not the pfSense Plus Upgrade branch.

@nightreap3r well I don't think they are having a problem - or there would be lots of people complaining.. My 23.01 is showing that it talked to the update servers just now, and also shows available packages.

I figured that was probably the case since I couldn't find any related posts from the past day or so.
Unfortunately this is happening on two different devices. I have a Protectli appliance and another small SBC. The Protectli appliance is my main piece of hardware. When I started having the issue, I tried doing a few things I seen on the form, such as modifying the repo files. None of that worked so I reinstalled CE 2.6.0 and tried to upgrade, but the upgrade says "Unable to check for updates", but it does allow me to check for updates on the CE 2.7.0 dev branch.
On the SBC which is currently acting as my router, it's running Plus 23.01, but when I check for updates on the current branch on it, it says the same thing, "Unable to check for updates".
When I do "pkg -d update" as seen on some form posts, it tells me it has a bad gateway on the Plus 23.01 system when trying to access files from the repo.
Also from the Plus 23.01 system, if I run option 13 from the command line, it says it was unable to connect to Netgate systems:
So at this point, I'm pretty much just lost, not sure what to do to move forward.

This issue was resolved (very quickly, and twice) by support.
One device had DNS misconfigured, the other it seems like when you reinstall a device that had pfSense Plus before there is a certificate that support needs to refresh/reset before you can upgrade again (at least in my case).

@nightreap3r i have the same issue with my protectli appliance & i think its a dns issue
can you please give more details on how to fix dns issue ? -
@mrrobot, my DNS issue was not having DNS set under "System" > "General Setup" > "DNS Server Settings".
I had it set to a PiHole, but while having it setup for debugging, I had the pfSense box hooked directly to my desktop on the LAN port and obviously it couldn't get to the DNS that way, so I had just removed it so that it would use my ISP's DNS for the LAN servers.
Seems pfSense doesn't like that. Set OpenDNS or Quad9 and it was fine.
My post ended up being two separate issues even though I thought they were the same. The Package Manager was because of the DNS issue. The "Unable to check for updates" issue was due to the thing (a cert I believe) that support needed to refresh for my NDI.

I tried my pi-hole/google dns/cloudflare dns & even my ISP dns but it looks like the appliance is unable to resolve dns requests & since i don't have pfsense plus i guess im stuck haha

@nightreap3r Cert issues are starting to look like a common theme. I have faced one since trying any build related to 23.05 RC onward.
