      Hi,
I'm starting my journey with Netgate & pfSense+. I bought a used SG-2100, which I want to use to get familiar with the system - and later replace it with new SG-4100 as my main firewall, while keeping the 2100 around in case the 4100 fails one day.

When I received the 2100, it seemed to have been factory reset but I did that anyway. I upgraded it to the latest 23.05 version and factory reset again.

Is there any way to literally wipe the HW clean and bootstrap from scratch (like on a block level via the serial cable)? I am asking because the firewall seems to be built on FreeBSD with SSH access, which theoretically could allow the previous owner to install some extra stuff.

I get that Factory defaults reset the configuration aspect of pfSense but would it also remove some extra package or script that has been added manually via SSH?

Sorry if I sound too paranoid, I just don't want to join any botnet :)

@mm404 Request the firmware from us and reinstall form the image -- that's the best way to make sure the system is clean.

The image you get from us will be directly written to your storage media in the 2100.
