      Howdy,

Long story short, updating 23.01 to 23.05 via GUI ended up in a non-bootable system.

      Error:

      FreeBSD/x86 boot
      Default: 0:ad(0,a)/boot/kernal/kernel
      boot:

      No /boot/kernel/kernel

There was no problem with the SSD. The same as i'm using right now, showing no errors. It was an issue provoked by the update.

Reinstalling everything from scratch and restoring backup solved. Apart from the wasted time, back up and running.

        What hardware you are using?

Ok, and where you were installing pfSense
        now on?

For sure it is, but on the other site I was installing
three time! And during the last "run" all was fine!
        On the same hardware.

@Dobby_ hardware is OEM a Qotom mini-pc with 6 gigabit ethernet interfaces (intel) 4gb ram and 16gb ssd.
The SSD SMART status is OK no errors failures or hints that anything is failing.

I'm installing on the same drive exactly. Just created a CE install USB, wiped the drive and installed, then CE to Plus 23.01 then restore config then upgrade to 23.05.

I was not knowing that! I was thinking you were installing on an Netgate device on a SSD and
            eMMC storage. My failure.

            Nearly like me, I installed 2.6 zfs > 23.01 > 23.05
and then the pkg`s installing plus config reinstall

But now all is fine here, I was thinking you were bricking really your device and it is not booting anymore.

@Dobby_ all is fine here too. Just the displeasure of having to go through all this instead of a smooth upgrade.
