SG 2100 not shutting down after halting system through GUI

Hello,
I seem to have a problem shutting down my netgate device.
I've halted the system using the GUI.
This shuts down the web interface but the device is still running (square blue LED blinking) +30minutes after this.
I've tried to connect to the device through the console, but my session just hangs indefinitely.I'm reluctant to simply power the device off in this state...
Can anyone help? -
@b3rt The ARM models cannot power themselves off. If you connect the console it will show a message to the effect that it's ready to power down. Generally I just wait a couple of minutes and unplug since shutdown takes maybe 30-60 seconds or so.
Edit: after it's no longer pingable. :)
Edit 2: IIRC there was a thread a while back, I want to say they can only turn off the LED while it's up so it's misleading to do that while it isn't done shutting down, or something like that.

@b3rt Unfortunately that’s the standard behaviour of the ARM based Netgate devices. I don’t know if this is caused by the platform having no way to actually power off, or if it’s just pfSense that can only soft halt it.
But disconnecting it about a minute after the halt command is no problem - it is actually halted by then.
You can connect the Serial/USB console and see what happens when you halt it, and that it has completed the shutdown. -

@keyser we have several of these units all doing the same thing for years and only just thought I should look into it to see if a fix and came across this thread. Niiiiiice. Is a shame would be good to report something on the webgui or something like that that it is ok to shutdown but anyhoo. Appreciated!

@b3rt that won’t shut it off the leds will always show. The system has no way to alert you when it’s off. It’s not designed that way. I thought the same thing with my 2100 years ago. Halt doesn’t work that way.

It's a catch-22, they can't turn off the LEDs because the OS is shut down, and they don't want to turn them off early because that would be misleading (Netgate's posted this). Similar to the web page, I would think...it can't show an "ok now" message unless the web server is running.

Indeed an x86 system has a standby mode and can usually drive an LED directly to indicate that. That just doesn't exist here.

More than likely it just wasn't planned. We ran the old IPCOP firewall from the 90's thru to the end and appreicated all the bells and wistles that went with it - like the shutdown sound, the start up sound, the connection to internet sound... oh the good old days right haha. Limitations are only that but lets face it - we are in 2024 and engineers are supposed to be smarter yet the simple things like those things I just mentioned... well... seems a step back. Yeah I know all the haters out there saying "but this and but that"... whatever your limitations technology should NEVER be a step backward. That just doesn't make sense.
I have not tried any other NETGATE device. Do they have that startup, shutdown, and connected to internet sound?

Yes, pfSense has a startup and shutdown sound that plays if you have a system speaker. Again that's an x86 thing though. There's no connect to the internet sound but it would be trivial to add, on x86!.
I came from IPCop myself, and Smoothwall before that.
