      Hi there,

I see this message on my SG-1100. Is the SG-110 EOL now?

The crypto chip inside the SG-1100 has a history of getting stuck in an invalid state. The only way to reset it is to physically power down the box, wait several seconds, then apply power again. A reboot is not sufficient to reset the crypto chip.

Shut down your SG-1100 from the menu. Be sure is has fully halted, then remove the power. Wait several seconds then power it up again and let it boot. If the crypto chip is the issue, things should work better for updating.

To be positive the box has halted, it would be beneficial to connect up the USB serial console cable and watch the firewall's console via the PuTTY serial connection to be sure it has halted. If you remove the power before the box fully halts, it is possible to corrupt the file system.

@bmeeks Thank you so much for the quick response! Power cycling fixed it!

This is a known limitation for some of the older SG-1100 boxes. Follow the advice given by the error and open a TAC Lite ticket here: https://www.netgate.com/tac-support-request. As an owner of Netgate hardware you are automatically entitled to basic hardware support. They can help you overcome the EFI issue.

It's not a total disk space issue. Instead, there is a special reserved EFI partition that is part of the boot process in the SG-1100. In some early editions that reserved partition is too small.

@bmeeks I've re-installed and restored my config and everything seems to be back to normal with 23.05 running. Thank you again!
