Netgate 7100 1U additional RAM not recognized
-
Hi all,
I recently added an M.2 SSD and a 16GB SODIMM to my system, and successfully installed pfSense Plus on the new drive. In looking at the RAM displayed on the Dashboard, my system is only detecting 8GB of RAM. Per some previous posts, I took a look at /var/log/dmesg.boot and it shows this:
real memory = 10737418240 (10240 MB) Physical memory chunk(s): 0x0000000000010000 - 0x000000000009efff, 585728 bytes (143 pages) 0x0000000000100000 - 0x00000000001fffff, 1048576 bytes (256 pages) 0x0000000004100000 - 0x000000007f6c3fff, 2069643264 bytes (505284 pages) 0x0000000100001000 - 0x000000026f937fff, 6166900736 bytes (1505591 pages) 0x000000027fe00000 - 0x000000027ffa7fff, 1736704 bytes (424 pages) avail memory = 8210825216 (7830 MB)
Here's the complete verbose output of dmesg.boot.txt for review. I don't see any errors that about memory, so I'm unsure why it's not detected/used.
This is the SODIMM that I am using. Although the top clock speed is higher that what I've seen others post, the chips normally down clock in order to match the system max.
Any help is appreciated!!

Normally when you change the RAM size in the 7100 it will take a long time to boot on the first boot after doing so.
That's because it needs to retrain the memory.Did you see that happen? If not it's probably not seeing the RAM at all for some reason.

@stephenw10 No, it seemed to be a normal boot, and I've done it a couple of times since installing. The first time, I was even connected via console, so I watched the whole processes.

Can you verify the RAM works in some other device?

@stephenw10 I'll have to check my other laptop. Primary is MacBook and that's fixed. Worst case, I might just order another one with a lower clock speed on Amazon.

If you look through the threads here there are some showing modules others have tested.
