Initial upgrade from 2.6CE to 2.7CE went well with Realtek RTL8111 adapters for WAN and LAN
-
I did an in place upgrade from 2.6 CE to 2.7 CE using a ThinkCentre M90n with two Realtek RTL8111 adapters, one configured for WAN, one configured for LAN, and I'm happy to report it went well. Posting this in case others plan to do the same.
Some qualifiers, in case you decide to upgrade...
The original 2.6 CE load used the ZFS file system, so if yours is not already using ZFS, your mileage may vary.
The original 2.6 CE load already had the Realtek 198.00 drivers installed, and also had a properly modified /boot/loader.conf.local file, with the lines
if_re_load="YES"
if_re_name="/boot/modules/if_re.ko"...already present. This was carried over to the new 2.7 CE install; I checked after the upgrade with the cat command. I also checked using the
kldstat
...command, and saw the realtek drivers were loaded.I did NOT uninstall two packages, avahi and pfBlockerNG (this is recommended in the install instructions for 2.7 CE), however, they were at their slightly older versions prior to the 2.7 CE upgrade. AFTER the in place upgrade to 2.7 CE, I also upgraded both packages.
Everything seems to be running well. Subjectively, CPU usage seems down (which is nice), bouncing between 10% and 17%...very low levels on an i3 8th gen intel processor.
If you decide to upgrade, I hope your install goes just as well.
I'll repost here after a few days if I see no problems or some problems.

So far, system has been running for about 53 hours since the upgrade from 2.6.0CE to 2.7.0 without issue.
