    need advice. my new ISP assigns static ip's to a mac address using DHCP. I have two static IP's so far and both are needing to route HTTPS, VOIP and other protocols. What is the best way to accomplish this? Can one network port have 2 mac address? or do i add two WAN adapters? or some other idea that i haven't thought of.

      @fastrax100 Set them up as VIPs on your WAN and do 1:1 or port forwarding to internal hosts.

          @fastrax100 Ask the ISP if they can assign all the statics to the same interface as your WAN.

          My ISP forwards a full block of 8 to my WAN and I can pass them out as needed as VIPs.

            @rcoleman-netgate My new ISP assigns static IPs to a mac address. I have to actually contact support to have the static ip address assigned to a mac. Then their DHCP server gives the static IP to the device with the correct mac address. i didn't realize this before stating with the change over.

            Can VIP's be dhcp assigned? if so, how do i find the virtual mac address for the VIP? Would that work?
            Thanks

              @fastrax100 said in 2 static IP's from ISP, DHCP assigned to a mac address:

              Can VIP's be dhcp assigned?

              No, they cannot.

                @rcoleman-netgate But a VIP has a mac address assigned to it? If so, how do i find that info? then i could just get my ISP to assign the static IP to the VIP mac address. Would that work?
                thanks

                  @fastrax100 The MAC of the interface it is assigned to, yes.

                    @rcoleman-netgate is the mac address that is given to the virtual IP the same as the mac address of the wan?

                        @rcoleman-netgate thanks for your help. so my option would be to add a second network interface and set it up as a second WAN?

                          @fastrax100 Apparently.

                          I would still pursue the ISP pushing the block or extra IPs to a static MAC instead.

                            @rcoleman-netgate Yeah, that would be nice. from what i have read from the Telus web site, it's a $400 add on. Cost to speed ratio was why i left my other internet provider. But the grass isn't always greener. :)
