Will WireGuard be built back into the pfSense operating system.
-
Are there any plans for WireGuard to be built back into the VPN tab with the rest of the VPN protocols rather than an add-on package?
I use an OpenVPN gateway as my default gateway with a static route set up so that the OpenVPN gateway always connects the remote server over the WAN gateway.
I would like have this setup using WireGuard, but as WireGuard is currently a package it makes configuring a new install from a backup impossible, without first being able to install the WireGuard package. I also think it would be nice to see it back in the base install with the rest of the VPN protocols now that WireGuard is natively in the FreeBSD 14.0 kernel that the current pfSense 2.7.0 is built on.

It's installed by default in Plus now.

@stephenw10 Thanks, I did hear that the package is pre installed on Plus. I like that the Community Edition is open-source so that’s where I’ve stayed.

From which version? 23.09 when it’s released? It’s not available by default in my 23.05.1

Noticed the same here.

To be clear the pkg is installed by default on a clean Plus install since 23.05. In the same way as the ipsec-profile-wizard and aws-wizard packages are.
If you upgraded from CE then the same installed package list would be carried across which may or may not include wireguard.
