No Internet access through Pfsense to LAN
-
I want to remove a router between the Internet and my Pfsense box. When I connect directly to the Internet my WAN IP address is something like 136.38.XXX.XXX and if I set my LAN address to 192.168.10.XXX I get no internet access through my Pfsense box but if I set my LAN address to 192.168.1.XXX then I do get internet access.
I have no idea why the 192.168.1.XXX address works and the 192.168.10.XXX address doesn’t. Is there something that I can do to make it work?

@Mr_Whip
Did you also configure your computer accordingly, so that it has an IP in 192.168.10.0/24 and set the new gateway IP or pull new DHCP lease? -
@viragomann Yes I did, I even did a fresh install of Pfsense on a test box. I just don't understand why it works when I set my LAN address to 192.168.1.1 and it doesn't when it is set to 192.168.10.1.

Makes no sense, I call it "nonsense".

@Mr_Whip
And you really removed the other router or is it still in play? -
Yes

@Mr_Whip
So this truly makes no sense at all.
To be honest, I would stay with 192.168.1.x if you don't have special reasons to change it. However, we can troubleshoot it.Try to ping 8.8.8.8 from pfSense. If it succeed try from a device behind. If this fails tracer out this address.
Post all outputs, please. -
Fixed, thank you.
I removed my router again and configured my Pfsense WAN to DHCP like before. Then I tried to ping 8.8.8.8 from Pfsense and received route unreachable. So I looked to verify the gateway address assigned by DUCP and saw it the entry but it was not the default IPv4 gateway. I changed that and bingo, everything is working.
I still don't know why on my test box it worked for the LAN address of 192.168.1.XXX but not 192.168.10.XXX, but since it is working on my prod Pfsense box I'm not going to complain.
Again thank you for the clue which got me looking at the default gateway setting.
