Cable provider keeps intermittantly going down. They come out and fiddle with things and it works for 6-8 weeks until it starts failing again. I looked in my logs and didn't see anything obvious. Where should I be looking for graphs of uptime or do I need to install some extra packages? I don't think it's DNS issues but should probably try to ping a numeric IP address when things aren't working. Would be great to have some details of how much they go down - if nothing else I could call when it starts happening before it gets more serious.

Do you have a gateway monitor setup ?

under System -> Routing -> Gateways
you can monitor an IP that is one or two hops away (or any IP the is outside and has a reasonable response time) You can adjust various thresholds of what is to be considered a failure as well.

Then under Status -> System Logs (System / Gateways) you can report on packet loss.

add the gateways widget to the dashboard.

You can also see WAN quality graphed in Status > Monitoring.

But, yes, that data is really only useful if you're monitoring something beyond your ISP, like 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8.
