Upgraded a Netgate 3100 this weekend from pfSense 22.05 to 23.05 and experienced MTU related issues. The WAN had an MTU set of of 1472.

When logged into the pfSense console I was able to load problematic web sites via the curl command just fine, but when on a LAN device, the exact same curl command would fail to load the web site.

Turns out the ISP had changed and the MTU was an old remnant, so I was able to simply remove the value and after apply changes everything was back to normal.

I don't know if this is a new issue in pfSense 23.05-1 or if it was a bug that it was working fine previously at all 😲
Only thing I could find was https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/14083 which doesn't seem related as the WAN was not on a switch port.

Hmm, I'm not aware of any change there. Potentially something was fixed and MTU value was not being enforced correctly in 22.05. That seems most likely though I'm not aware of any such bug and I would have expected more reports from anyone who needed a reduced MTU.

@stephenw10 yeah exactly I would have expected more reports too. Coincidentally we found out about another Netgate 3100 where the same thing happened, and removing the MTU setting resolved their issue as well.
So right now I'm aware of 2 cases, both 3100 appliances.
